Improvement for the seniors!
Taffs Well have showed improved form of late and this continued at Old
Penarthians on Saturday (22nd March), when the side coached by Dave Smith
picked up a bonus point in their 26-20 victory.
In their previous two games there was a bonus point 35-6
win at Newport Saracens, followed by a 25-15 success at New Panteg in which
a four try bonus point was also achieved.
The game at Penarth was
strange in the fact that all the points were scored in the first half and
although the home forwards had the upper hand, the Taffs Well backs looked
dangerous when they attacked. Captain Jordan Goodwin scored his side’s first
try, which was followed by one from wing Kristian Nicolas, both converted by
Tom Hale, but the home side hit back with two tries of their own to close
the gap. Taffs Well then went back on the attack resulting in Craig Smith,
and Ryan Smith crossing for a try apiece, one converted by Tom Hale, to give
Taffs Well the bonus point. Old Penarthians again came back to score their
third try, to close the gap to 26-20, and that was the end of the scoring.
The second half saw
both sides waste chances to increase their points total, but both failed,
leaving the final score, as at the break, 26-20 to Taffs Well.
